Open Access Policy

1. Introduction

NERS Jurnal Keperawatan (NJK), published by the Faculty of Nursing, Universitas Andalas, is committed to supporting the dissemination of scholarly knowledge in nursing science, nursing practice, nursing education, clinical care, and healthcare services.

The journal recognizes that open access can facilitate the exchange of knowledge, support evidence-based nursing practice, strengthen research collaboration, and broaden access to scholarly information for researchers, healthcare professionals, educators, students, and the public.

This policy describes NJK's approach to providing access to its published research, the rights of authors and readers, applicable licensing terms, publication fees, and the responsibilities associated with the reuse and dissemination of scholarly content.

2. Definition of Open Access

Open access refers to the online availability of scholarly publications without subscription charges or other financial barriers for readers.

NJK aims to make its published articles accessible to readers through its official journal website. Open access supports the dissemination of research findings and enables readers to discover and consult scholarly information regardless of their institutional affiliation or geographical location.

Access to and reuse of published articles are subject to the copyright and licensing terms applicable to each publication. Readers and other users must respect those terms when reproducing, distributing, adapting, or otherwise reusing journal content.

3.1 Free and Immediate Access

NJK provides online access to its published articles through its official journal website:

https://ners.fkep.unand.ac.id/index.php/NJK

The journal's open access model is intended to enable readers to access and download published research without subscription charges.

Where an article is published under an open access license, users may read, download, copy, distribute, print, search, and link to the article, and may undertake other forms of reuse permitted by the applicable license and relevant law.

Access conditions, including any applicable restrictions, are determined by the journal's published policies and the licensing terms associated with the individual article.

3.2 Copyright and Licensing

Copyright and licensing arrangements for articles published in NJK are governed by the journal's applicable copyright policy, publication agreement, and the license indicated on the relevant article.

NJK aims to provide clear information about copyright ownership and permitted reuse so that authors and readers understand their respective rights and responsibilities.

The applicable license determines whether and under what conditions users may:

  • Share: Copy and redistribute the published material in appropriate media or formats.

  • Adapt: Remix, transform, or build upon the material, where permitted by the applicable license.

  • Attribute: Provide appropriate credit to the original author(s) and publication source, as required.

  • Comply with license conditions: Observe any applicable requirements concerning commercial use, distribution of adaptations, attribution, or other restrictions.

Authors and readers should consult the licensing statement displayed on the published article and the journal website before reusing or distributing content.

NJK will ensure that its stated licensing policy is consistent with the actual licensing arrangements applied to its published articles.

3.3 Publication Fees and Article Processing Charges

NJK aims to communicate its publication fees transparently so that authors can understand any financial obligations associated with submitting and publishing their work.

Any applicable Article Processing Charges (APCs), submission fees, or other publication-related fees will be described in the journal's official policies and author information.

Authors are encouraged to consult the journal's current publication fee policy before submitting a manuscript.

The existence, amount, timing, and scope of any publication charges must be determined by NJK's officially approved arrangements and communicated clearly to prospective authors.

3.4 User Rights and Permitted Reuse

NJK encourages the responsible dissemination and use of scholarly research in accordance with the copyright and licensing terms applicable to each article.

Readers may access and use published content for purposes permitted under the relevant license and applicable law. Appropriate attribution to the original author(s) and the journal should be provided when required.

Users must not imply that the authors or NJK endorse a particular product, service, organization, or interpretation without appropriate authorization.

Where an article contains third-party material, images, instruments, or other content subject to separate copyright restrictions, users must comply with the relevant permissions and terms.

3.5 Benefits of Open Access

NJK recognizes several potential benefits of open access publishing.

For authors:

  • Greater accessibility of their research to the international scholarly community.

  • Opportunities to reach researchers, nursing professionals, educators, students, and healthcare practitioners.

  • Increased opportunities for research dissemination and collaboration.

  • Improved availability of evidence relevant to nursing practice, education, and healthcare policy.

For researchers and the academic community:

  • Easier access to scholarly information and research findings.

  • Opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration and further investigation.

  • Greater availability of evidence to support research, education, and professional development.

For healthcare professionals and society:

  • Broader access to research relevant to nursing practice and healthcare services.

  • Opportunities to support evidence-informed clinical and community care.

  • Improved dissemination of knowledge that may contribute to healthcare education and service development.

These benefits depend on the quality, relevance, discoverability, and responsible use of the published research.

3.6 Compliance with Funder and Institutional Requirements

Authors are responsible for checking the open access, copyright, and research dissemination requirements imposed by their funding bodies, institutions, and applicable regulations.

NJK encourages authors to disclose relevant funding information and to ensure that their publication arrangements are compatible with applicable funding and institutional requirements.

Where a funder requires specific licensing or repository deposit conditions, authors should verify that the applicable arrangements are satisfied before submission.

3.7 Self-Archiving and Repository Deposit

NJK supports the responsible dissemination and preservation of scholarly work through appropriate repositories and other permitted channels, subject to its applicable copyright and licensing policies.

Authors may deposit or share manuscript versions where permitted by the journal's current self-archiving policy and any applicable publication agreement.

The conditions for sharing a submitted manuscript, accepted manuscript, or final published article may differ. Authors should verify which version may be deposited, when deposit is permitted, and what attribution or licensing statements must accompany the deposited material.

Where available, authors are encouraged to provide a complete citation and a link to the official NJK article page or its DOI.

3.8 Digital Preservation and Long-Term Accessibility

NJK recognizes the importance of preserving published research for long-term access and future scholarly use.

The journal seeks to maintain access to its published content through appropriate website management, content preservation, and data protection measures.

Any external digital preservation services used by NJK will be identified in its Archiving Policy. Claims concerning participation in specific preservation services will reflect the journal's verified technical configuration and institutional arrangements.

For additional information, readers and authors should consult the journal's Archiving Policy.

3.9 Editorial Independence and Publication Quality

NJK's commitment to open access does not diminish the importance of editorial independence, peer review, research integrity, and publication ethics.

Editorial decisions must be based on the scholarly quality, originality, relevance, and suitability of submitted manuscripts in accordance with the journal's editorial policies.

Any applicable publication fees must not determine editorial decisions or replace the journal's established peer review and editorial assessment procedures.

Authors are expected to comply with the journal's requirements concerning research ethics, authorship, conflicts of interest, informed consent, and responsible reporting, as applicable.

4. Statement of Principle

NERS Jurnal Keperawatan (NJK) supports the responsible dissemination of scholarly knowledge in nursing and healthcare through accessible scholarly publishing.

The journal recognizes that clear access conditions, transparent licensing, fair publication policies, and responsible preservation practices are essential to maintaining trust among authors, readers, researchers, healthcare professionals, and the wider academic community.

NJK will communicate its applicable open access arrangements through its official website and review this policy when necessary to reflect changes in publication practices, licensing arrangements, institutional requirements, and scholarly publishing standards.
